How to Clean Yeezy Foam Runners & Slides (Without Wrecking the Foam)

Foam Runners and Slides are one-piece EVA foam — no knit, no stitching, no boost sole. That's exactly why people baby the wrong parts of the cleaning process and skip the parts that matter. Dirt sits in the textured surface, not on top of it, and the wrong cleaner leaves grey blotches that never fully lift. Here's the method that actually works.

What you actually need

  • Lukewarm water, never hot
  • A soft-bristle brush — the textured tread on both silhouettes grabs dirt, so a dedicated sneaker brush gets into the ridges better than a rag
  • A few drops of mild soap or dish soap — no bleach, no magic eraser
  • A microfiber towel

The method

  1. Rinse loose debris first. Foam Runners especially collect dirt in the perforated holes and tread — a quick rinse under the tap knocks most of it out before you scrub anything.
  2. Light circles, not pressure. EVA foam is soft and scratches or compresses if you dig in. Dip the brush, work small circles, let the soap lift the grime instead of muscling it out.
  3. Get the tread and straps. On Slides, the strap and footbed groove trap the most dirt. On Foam Runners, it's the perforations and outsole tread — same light-pressure approach.
  4. Wipe fully dry. Foam holds water longer than knit. Towel off every surface, including inside the perforations, so it doesn't sit damp.
  5. Air dry flat, out of the sun. Direct heat and UV yellow and stiffen EVA foam the same way they do a boost sole — never a radiator, never a car dashboard.

What actually stains foam (and what doesn't)

Grass and mud are the two repeat offenders — they bind to EVA foam almost like a dye rather than sitting on the surface. Get to them same-day with soap and water; let them dry in and a light grey ghost stain is permanent. Bleach doesn't help here either — it discolors foam unevenly instead of lifting stains clean, which is the opposite of what people expect.

Never: bleach, magic erasers, or the washing machine. All three either discolor or warp EVA foam permanently.

Keep them looking new

A 30-second rinse-and-brush after any wear near grass, sand, or mud keeps stains from setting. Store both silhouettes flat rather than crammed in a bag — folded foam creases in a way that doesn't bounce back the way knit does.
